working amongst the chaos

Hey mamas! Coming at ya today with my top tips for getting work done with kiddos around. Grab your coffee, your checklist and get ready to be productive!

Breaking it down for ya:

...realistic expectations: when you have littles running around life can never be predictable. Set realistic expectations for yourself. Don’t make a list filled with larger, more time consuming tasks and expect them to be checked off in one single day. Instead, your to do list should contain all the daily tasks that you do on repeat [i.e. laundry/dishwasher/meal prep etc] plus ONE larger goal task [i.e. organizing my toddlers closet]. If you fill your list with 10 different organization projects that you hope will get done all on a Tuesday, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Disperse the larger jobs across the week. This way, there is a much higher chance of completion.

...write it down: planning out your goals for the week day by day is essential. If you keep all your ideas up in your head, you are bound to either become overwhelmed or forget important things. Both of these situations typically end in lacking productivity. Set your intentions in ink. That way, it’s all there right in front of you broken down into a manageable plan.

...prioritize: organize your to do list into levels of importance. The “must get done” segment should be the first area tackled. This will increase your productivity significantly because the essentials will be squared away first thing.

...setup “play stations”: no I do not mean video games:). When Axel plays in the living room while I sit at the dining room table getting work done, I setup varying play areas around the coffee table that he can rotate through to help keep his attention. We have these really fantastic subscriptions to lovevery and montikids, which makes it super easy to setup Montessori style play areas where he can work on skills while I tackle my mommy do list. Bonus: teaching your toddler to master the skill of independent play is a really important milestone…plus it’s a win-win. Axe is happy playing and I am getting things checked off my list!

...relax the rules: sometimes you just gotta chill out and let your kid watch TV. Doesn’t have to be total trash…pick something educational if it makes you feel better. No guilt necessary when I have to call in the screen time backup.

There you have it mamas! Tips on how to get your work done amongst the chaos. Happy planning :)
